Thomas & Hutton Engineers provided engineering services exclusively related to surveying, wastewater, and water systems. In 1954, Thomas & Hutton and Associates was created to provide structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering services, with an emphasis on architecture. The sister firm went through several name and organizational changes (Thomas, Driscoll & Hutton in the early 1960s to Thomas, Hutton & Johnson in the late 1960s).

In 1955, a new entity, Thomas & Hutton Engineering Co., was established to provide civil engineering services while the partnership, Thomas & Hutton, Engineers remained solely for management purposes. The decision was made to close the sister firm (Thomas, Hutton & Johnson) in 1970. The partnership (Thomas & Hutton, Engineers) was dissolved in the late 1970s.

With the closing of the other firms, Thomas & Hutton Engineering Co. expanded its services and transitioned into the full-service consulting engineering firm we know today. In addition to the headquarters in Savannah, T&H has offices in Brunswick, Georgia, Charleston and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Wilmington, North Carolina.
