Windmill Harbor Lock | Hilton Head Island, South Carolina
Thomas & Hutton was responsible for the design and construction management of three navigational lock structures (Wexford and Windmill Harbor on Hilton Head Island and Queens Harbour in Jacksonvile, Fla.) and inland harbor facilities on the Southeast coast. These facilities create a tideless inland boat basin providing superb water quality, storm protection and tranquil marine environments for high-end residential and resort developments.
These systems are constructed of large concrete chambers and steel sector gates with sophisticated control systems to allow for smooth and easy operation.
Windmill Harbor (above) is a 15-acre harbour and lock system that protects the 260 slips from wakes and currents while providing access to the Intracoastal Waterway.
