Thomas & Hutton has conducted numerous traffic studies and designed many intersections throughout coastal Georgia and South Carolina. Deliverables include new turn lanes, traffic signals, roadside ditches, preliminary plans, right-of-way plans, staked right-of-way, and prepared final construction plans (including cover, general notes, index, summary of quantities, typical sections, plan/profile sheets, drainage profiles, cross sections, signing and marking plans, soil erosion and sediment control, traffic signal plans, construction details and standard details).
T&H was responsible for the first two-lane roundabout in South Carolina at the intersection of SC 170 and SC 46 in Bluffton. The Frederica-Demere Roundabout (shown above) won the 2008 GPTQ Preconstruction Award Competition in the Category of Traffic Safety/Intersection Design and the 2009 ACEC/G Engineering Excellence State Award for its innovative design and construction. Because of the way it was designed and built in three stages, the intersection was able to remain fully functional throughout construction.
