Army Ranger Memorial Dedication Held to Salute 29 Fallen Soldiers

Thomas & Hutton Engineering Co. played an integral role in the dedication of the 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment Memorial at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, Georgia on October 18, 2007. The Battalion’s first tragedy was James E. Quick, who passed away during a training accident on November 6, 1976. The memorial was completed some 31 years later because of the dedication and persistence of several key individuals, Col. Michael Kershaw, Gen. Kenneth C. Leuer, Sheila Dudley, Dave Emer and Dick Eckburg, who helped make it a reality.

Thomas & Hutton Engineering Co. has been involved with this project from the begin¬ning and was responsible for the final design and construction documents based on the concept design by students from the Savannah Col¬lege of Art & Design. The Thomas & Hutton team included: Danny Stanley, Dan Gay, Bo Jolley, Timothy Gay and John Garceau. These individuals donated many countless hours to develop the “moving concept” of the memorial into actuality and will continue to remain involved to maintain its beauty. Below, alongside Shelia Dudley at the Ranger Ball on October 19, 2007, are Dan Gay and Bo Jolley, who were presented plaques designating them as Honorary Rangers for their outstanding patriotic service. Danny Stanley was designated an Honorary Ranger at last year’s Ranger Ball for his dedication.

The memorial also features the work and materials provided by many local people and business, such as: DePue Monument Co., Sodman Landscaping and Chatham Steel Corp. Inscribed in stainless steel at the heart of the memorial on Georgia granite are the names of 29 fallen rangers.

Thomas & Hutton is proud to be involved in this important memorial project at Hunter Army Airfield and salutes the Army’s 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment’s fallen soldiers and their families.

Orange & Marroon Effect

On April 16, 2007, tragedy took place on Virginia Tech's campus as a gunman took the lives of 33 people. Amongst the victims were 3 engineering professors, 11 engineering students, and 1 architecture student. On April 20th, we encouraged employees to don orange and maroon apparel in honor of the slain Virginia Tech students and professors. Our employees raised $595 for the Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund. The fund covers grief counseling, memorials, communication costs, comfort expenses, incidental needs, and other costs.
